Teaching

I teach Private Lessons (Zoom or In Person)

Teaching Jazz

I have a bachelor’s degree in jazz music from the Prince Claus Conservatory in the Netherlands and a Master’s degree in jazz performance from Queens College in New York. Living and working in New York has been my main jazz education and I am a lifelong student of jazz. The music requires listening deeply to the great masters who created the art form, while also developing your own voice and creative expression.

Teaching Vocal Technique

I work based on the principles of Somatic Voicework™ the LoVetri Method and on the basis of contemporary scientific research into the singing voice. I also use elements from different singing methods such as Estill Voice Training and Universal Voice, and work with different methods and exercises used in voice therapy such as Coblenzer and the Accent Method. Together we work towards finding a balanced and free voice.

You will learn how your voice works and how to best use it. In addition, we assume that body, mind and voice are inextricably linked. You’ll learn to be more aware of you body and to consciously listen and feel what your voice does. I believe we can trust that the instrument generally knows how to perform a given task.

As a teacher I observe and listen to your voice and guide it in a certain direction by giving an exercise. In the meantime we give the body time to get used to the adjustments. Developing your singing voice takes time, practice and awareness.

I work with students of all levels.
